Welcome to Future You, a newsletter for curious souls and lifelong learners.
While I don’t pretend to know the meaning of life, Future You is founded on the philosophy of doing your best. This means working towards the best version of yourself every day, knowing full well there is no destination, just the journey. That the only way to leave any worthwhile legacy is to live a life you’re proud of.
But, before we get too philosophical, Future You isn’t about shoulds and shouldn’ts, rather it’s a creative exploration of life. An attempt to clarify my thinking, as I collect common threads and weave them into themes. It’s as much about creativity and culture as it is about self-development and growth.
Each month I share my thoughts on where I’ve got to with a certain topic alongside curated content to read, watch, listen, download and ponder chosen for their relevance to that theme. I also share some more active suggestions about places to visit and ideas to implement, create and try at home. In the spirit of creativity, I am constantly experimenting and evolving the format, but if you’re interested in reading, self-development, wellbeing, maximising your time and energy, creativity, culture, travel, connection or coffee, you’ve come to the right place!
For all those who are not content with settling, join me on this journey as we explore what life has to offer if you keep an open mind and pursue what sparks your interest.
Future Me
Hi, I’m SJ Fallick. A born and bred Aussie from Melbourne, I’ve lived in London for the past nine years. When I say this, people always ask why. I moved because I didn’t want to spend my whole life living in one place and for the proximity to travel Europe (Rome) - certainly not for the weather!
A marketer by day, I’m passionate about using my communications, content, strategy, partnership and events skills to help grow businesses and people. In a past life, I wrote a lot of travel content, which I made a foray back into last year with my St John’s Wood neighbourhood guide and 2024 UK bucket list.
Above all else, I’m a writer. As any other writer will understand, it’s not so much of a choice as something I can’t not do. A way of understanding my thoughts and trying to make sense of the world, if it can help others too, that’s the cherry on top.
To me, happiness is combining my love of writing with my favourite ways to spend my spare time - exploring different cultures, seeking out the best rooftops, bookshops and coffee.
Future Us
You may recognise me from LinkedIn…
Future You started as a creative experimentation coinciding with the launch of LinkedIn’s creator and newsletter features back in August 2022. A fine first foray into the world of newsletters, it’s now time for the next iteration away from the sea of shouty self-promotional posts (myself included at times) and inboxes clogged with generic sales messages.
One of the biggest reasons I create and share Future You is for connection. Sure, I want to share thoughts and suggestions that have helped me and that I hope will add value to others. But, ultimately, I also want to connect with my readers and create a community of like-minded souls. Where LinkedIn (and social media in general) can often feel like shouting into the void, I hope that Substack will be a two-way conversation.
So, whether you’re an existing subscriber or new here, I’d like to warmly welcome you to Future You. It means so much to have you join me on this shared journey.
I hope Future You offers an encouraging and inspiring space to connect with your best self and I invite you to help me shape and grow this precious community.
Here’s to you and I, but better.
